Could you tell us a little about yourself?

My name is Fábio Fernandes, and I am based in Porto, Portugal. Over the past 8 years, I’ve accumulated experience in Data & AI, and 4 years in Sales and Marketing. I have been a Data and Analytics Lead at the HUGO BOSS Digital Campus @ Metyis for almost two years now. My professional mission is to support organisations in optimising decision-making processes through analytics. I have been involved in end-to-end analytics projects in eCommerce, logistics, and marketing automation. I also teach Artificial Intelligence, Data Visualisation, and Big Data Analytics classes.

My academic background includes a master's degree in data science and engineering from FEUP, a Generative AI specialisation at Técnico+, Lisbon, and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Business Intelligence & Analytics from Porto Business School.

In my personal life, I find joy in playing guitar, particularly Blues music, which allows me to express creativity and unwind. I am passionate about sports, enjoying activities such as padel, bodyboarding, cross-training, and basketball which I have played professionally for 10 years. Additionally, I relish attending wine-tasting events, exploring different flavours and regions, and deepening my appreciation for the craft.

What is your current role at Metyis?

I am a Data and Analytics Lead at the HUGO BOSS Digital Campus @ Metyis. I collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders to deliver data & analytics products. I help bridge the gap between business, data experts, and IT teams, ensuring project alignment and addressing issues. Additionally, I collaborate with the HBDC Data Engineering team on creating a data lake as a new layer into the HUGO BOSS data platform, managing data requests, and supporting the automation of data science models.

How has analytics defined and evolved your career?

Analytics has profoundly shaped my career, transitioning from a curiosity into a driving force behind my professional journey. Initially, I was fascinated by the potential of data to reveal hidden patterns and insights. Over time, I honed my skills in data analysis and interpretation, which enabled me to drive strategic decisions and innovations. My career evolved as I leveraged analytics to optimise processes, improve customer experiences, and deliver measurable business outcomes. This journey has solidified my belief in the transformative power of data and analytics.

Analytics has been integral to my career, from leading AI-driven product enhancements at E-goi to managing business analytics at Jumia PTC. My academic background in Data Science and Engineering, combined with practical experience, has allowed me to leverage analytics to drive business impact.
