In this edition of One ethos, One culture, our Bangalore-based Associate Swathi describes the ever-changing world of eCommerce and reflects on advice she would give her past self.
Meet Swathi, a WCS Associate in Bangalore
Tell us a little more about yourself.
My name is Swathi, and I was born in Udupi, a coastal town in southern India, though I spent my childhood in another part of India. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and worked as a software engineer for two other companies before joining Metyis.
Out of the office, I have a great passion for art and enjoy honing my skills as an amateur painter. I am also an avid traveller and a prolific bookworm.
What is your role at Metyis?
As a Senior Associate, I work closely with our global eCommerce teams in Porto, the Netherlands and India. My primary responsibility is liaising with clients to understand their needs and executing the appropriate solution, whether developing and implementing new features or improving existing ones. This is done at both backend and frontend levels, collaborating with the client at every step of the process.
What's exciting in a typical workday at Metyis?
In eCommerce, every day is different, which I find incredibly inspiring; it pushes me to excel in different scenarios. Some days are more challenging than others but ultimately, overcoming these hurdles leaves me feeling fulfilled at the end of each day. Most of my tasks are related to building high-performing eCommerce platforms; it's an immensely diverse and satisfying work environment, where I continuously feel supported by a collaborative, close-knit team dedicated to making a difference.
What first sparked your interest in Metyis?
I applied for the position of eCommerce developer at Metyis through LinkedIn. After undergoing the screening process with the technical and business teams, I felt sure I wanted to work at Metyis. Their innovative, entrepreneurial approach and partnership model were particularly inspiring. I have always aspired to be part of a global and versatile team, and Metyis is a perfect blend of both.
Can you share a bit about your journey to Metyis?
After completing my bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, I joined a technology company as a software engineer, working for an eCommerce client for four years. Following that, I spent two more years as a software engineer at another firm before joining Metyis.
What is the best thing about working at Metyis?
The most exciting aspect of working with Metyis is the chance to be part of a global team that gives exposure to a flexible support structure and diverse company culture. Metyis also allows me to explore different fast-growing technologies and implement them in an intuitive and personal manner.
What would you say to your past self?
There's a quote from Arianna Huffington I would pass on to my younger self, I think it summarises what I’ve learnt over the past years: "We need to accept that we won't always make the right decisions, that we'll screw up royally sometimes – understanding that failure is not the opposite of success, it's part of success."
Being prepared to learn from our experiences is part of the growth process; it drives us to become more proficient, find innovative solutions and become stronger than ever. Acknowledging this prepares us to face personal and professional challenges and not fear failure. It's essential to find an atmosphere where you feel supported; I believe that Metyis has that culture.
