Meet Joana, our UX/UI Designer in Porto

What would you like to share so we can get to know you better?

I was born in San Francisco, USA, and I moved to Portugal a few years ago to study Design Multimedia at Universidade da Beira Interior. I was drawn to this new adventure and felt compelled to learn more about my family’s Portuguese roots. To me, that is what makes me who I am. From the places I've lived to all the different people who are still in my life, these things shape who I am as an individual. I’ve played sports from a young age, so staying active in my day-to-day is very important. I get exercise from jogging and surfing.

When you were offered a job at Metyis, what made you say “yes”?

The opportunity to work with such an inspiring group of individuals was the main motivation to join Metyis. When I came across this opportunity, what struck me first was the support employees receive from each other.

How would you describe your path to Metyis?

Before joining Metyis, I spent the first four years of my career as a digital designer working at an international advertising agency. In late May 2021, I learned about Metyis on LinkedIn, and I was immediately drawn to the company’s vision.

What is different about UX/UI Design at Metyis?

As a UX/UI designer, I combine user empathy and multidisciplinary skills to create beautiful, smooth, and impactful products. I love that I get to dig into the “why?” behind user behaviour and have the possibility to be involved in all stages of product development.

There is a shared vision that runs through the company, which is crucial. Being heard when I speak, working as part of a team, not being afraid to take on tough challenges and creating an environment that encourages communication are all essential, but it all comes together through the culture that makes this such a great work environment.

How would you describe the workplace atmosphere?

Metyis has provided a unique environment, and specifically, I've had the opportunity to work with inspiring professionals who come from a vast array of backgrounds and experiences. In this collaborative environment, we can share our knowledge and grow together.

What's the best piece of advice you've ever been given?

Always look at a challenge with a curious mind. Ask “why?” and “how”.
